This comprehensive, practice-focused CME program provides primary care clinicians with up-to-date, evidence-based strategies in addiction medicine, office orthopedics, and sports medicine, with an emphasis on skills that can be immediately implemented in the outpatient setting. Over three days, participants will enhance their ability to diagnose, treat, and manage complex conditions commonly encountered in primary care, while integrating safe prescribing practices, exercise counseling, and musculoskeletal assessment tools.

🔍 Course Objectives

Participants will learn to:

  • Apply validated tools to assess and manage concussions, including return-to-learn, return-to-play, neuropsychological testing, and identification of second-impact syndrome.

  • Perform accurate physical exam maneuvers for foot, ankle, knee, and shoulder complaints, and recognize conditions requiring urgent referral.

  • Screen and diagnose opioid use disorder (OUD) and select appropriate, evidence-based treatment modalities and levels of care.

  • Initiate buprenorphine therapy (traditional, micro-dosing, and macro-dosing protocols), and manage precipitated withdrawal and chronic pain overlap.

  • Screen, diagnose, and treat alcohol use disorder (AUD) using FDA-approved and off-label pharmacotherapies.

  • Write individualized Exercise Rx using the FITT-PRO framework and overcome patient-specific barriers to physical activity.

  • Differentiate tendinopathies and select evidence-based non-operative treatments, including indications and risks of injections.

  • Manage chronic opioid therapy using the newest CDC prescribing guideline, and recognize early signs of emerging OUD.

  • Perform and interpret urine drug screens accurately while avoiding common diagnostic pitfalls.

  • Understand current trends in cannabis and tobacco/vaping use, and apply evidence-based treatment approaches.
